The Fern Gully Waterfall

A waterfall pours softly into a still pool, ringed by tree ferns, mossy cliffs and fallen trunks.

Let your eyes wander

  1. Begin with the waterfall, coming down in long white ribbons into the pool below.
  2. Halfway down, the water spreads across a ledge and steps down again.
  3. Tree ferns crowd the gully on both sides, their fronds opened out like green umbrellas.
  4. Some of the older fronds have turned a soft papery brown and hang beneath the green ones.
  5. Across the still pool, fallen trunks lie one over another, grey and worn smooth.
  6. On the cliff at the left, thick moss hangs down the dark rock in long green fingers.
  7. In front, the stream slides quietly between rounded stones, each with its own cap of moss.
  8. On the big boulder at the bottom right, a few small fallen leaves rest on the bare stone above the moss.

There is no last thing to find. Look again wherever your eyes would like to rest, or close them and keep the picture.

Keep going

Nothing here needs finishing. Every door leads somewhere, and the last one is always darker than this.
