Mist over Cheow Lan Lake
Cloud drifts down a limestone cliff into the rainforest, and the still lake holds every tree twice.
Let your eyes wander
- Begin with the great limestone cliff, half lost in the cloud.
- Mist drifts down its side and settles into the forest below like slow smoke.
- Along the shore, tall pale trunks rise above the canopy, holding their leaves up high.
- On the right, one bare white tree lifts its forked branches against the fog.
- To the left of it, two slim trunks are wrapped from top to bottom in dark climbing vines.
- Below the trees, a strip of bright grass meets a band of pale floating weed at the water’s edge.
- On the left, thin bare stems stand alone in the grass like posts left behind by the water.
- In the still lake, every pale trunk appears again, stretched into a long wavering line.
There is no last thing to find. Look again wherever your eyes would like to rest, or close them and keep the picture.
