Where the Moss Hangs Down

In a temperate rainforest, moss hangs from every branch and ferns fill the soft green floor.

Let your eyes wander

  1. Begin with the tall dark trunks standing close together across the slope.
  2. Their branches are wrapped in thick green moss that hangs down in long soft strands.
  3. Ferns spread low over the forest floor between the trees.
  4. On the right, an old broken stump leans out of the ground, its tangled roots draped in moss.
  5. Across the front lies a thin fallen log, dark and shining wet, with small curtains of moss hanging from it.
  6. Just beneath the log on the right, a pale piece of older fallen wood lies hidden among the leaves.
  7. On the bright leaves at the bottom right, small round raindrops are still resting.
  8. Far behind the trees at the upper left, the forest opens into a softer, brighter green.

There is no last thing to find. Look again wherever your eyes would like to rest, or close them and keep the picture.

Keep going

Nothing here needs finishing. Every door leads somewhere, and the last one is always darker than this.
