A River of Fog in the Carpathians

Early sun on copper beeches and dark firs, with a slow river of fog filling the valley below.

A sunlit green meadow runs down between red, orange and gold autumn trees towards a valley filled with white fog, with blue mountains beyond.

Let your eyes wander

  1. Begin with the green meadow in front, half in sunlight and half in long morning shadow.
  2. Follow the faint track as it climbs the slope towards the trees.
  3. Near the edge of the woods, a single thin wooden post stands in the pale grass.
  4. The beeches along the meadow have turned copper and red, with dark fir trees standing among them.
  5. Look for one pale, bare tree in the middle of all that colour, its branches almost white.
  6. Beyond, fog fills the valley, and a few lone treetops rise out of it like small islands.
  7. On the hill to the left, a long fence line crosses a green pasture dotted with little trees.
  8. Far away, the mountains fade into soft blue layers under a clear sky.

There is no last thing to find. Look again wherever your eyes would like to rest, or close them and keep the picture.

Keep going

Nothing here needs finishing. Every door leads somewhere, and the last one is always darker than this.
