Let your eyes wander

  1. Begin with the white egret lifting off in the middle, its wings raised high.
  2. Around it, hundreds of brown wading birds with long, straight bills stand in the shallow water.
  3. In front, a few tall white egrets wade slowly through the grass.
  4. On the left, look for a grey heron standing quietly among the brown birds.
  5. On the right, a group of white gulls rests together on the water.
  6. Far back by the bank on the right, a few more herons stand alone at the water’s edge.
  7. Behind them, coconut palms fade softly into the haze.
  8. Above the palms, one small bird flies across the pale sky.

There is no last thing to find. Look again wherever your eyes would like to rest, or close them and keep the picture.

Keep going

Nothing here needs finishing. Every door leads somewhere, and the last one is always darker than this.
