Grasses and a Web at Dawn
Seed heads of grass stand dark against a peach sunrise, with a dewy web strung between them.
Let your eyes wander
- Begin with the tallest grass head, dark against the peach-coloured sky.
- Its little side branches reach out like the fingers of an open hand.
- Below, between two stems, a round web hangs in the air, every thread lit gold by the low sun.
- Look closely and you can see tiny drops of dew strung along its threads.
- More dew sits on the long grass blades, each drop holding a small spark of light.
- Near the middle, one thin new blade points straight up, beaded with drops towards its tip.
- Behind everything, a low mist lies across the field.
- Far off, the soft shapes of trees fade into the haze.
There is no last thing to find. Look again wherever your eyes would like to rest, or close them and keep the picture.
