Green Anemones at Low Tide

A rock pool on the Oregon coast, crowded with green anemones, seaweed and tiny shells.

Let your eyes wander

  1. Begin with the big anemone just left of the middle, its smooth green centre shining like a little pond.
  2. Each one is speckled all over with tiny bits of shell and gravel.
  3. Down on the left, a few have opened, showing soft rings of pale green tentacles.
  4. Between them, a small clump of pink seaweed sits in the clear water.
  5. Near the top, one anemone is a brighter, glassier green than all the others.
  6. Below and to its right, a very small anemone curls up, no bigger than a button.
  7. On the grey rock at the top right, look for tiny barnacles and a few small blue shells.
  8. Along the right edge, olive rockweed lies in soft, tangled fronds.

There is no last thing to find. Look again wherever your eyes would like to rest, or close them and keep the picture.

Keep going

Nothing here needs finishing. Every door leads somewhere, and the last one is always darker than this.
